Poster Session Guideline
Continuing with a recently established tradition at the RAMP Conference, members, students, and non-members will have an opportunity to highlight research during The Poster Session. The Poster Session setting is less formal than topic sessions, and in general, presenters are able to interact with more of their colleagues. Poster sessions are effective forums for the exchange of information and a means to communicate ideas, research and programs. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their project as conference attendees come through the area. This can be especially useful for research in progress or if searching for additional ideas.
Criteria
Format
The poster session will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023, at the host hotel. It will be arranged to facilitate audience traffic flow and exhibit visibility. Presentations will take place concurrently. Small tables will be provided. Supplies will not be provided.
Poster presenters are responsible for providing their own equipment for any PowerPoint presentation. Electrical outlets and power cords will be available upon notification prior to January 19, 2023. Wireless Internet service is available via the hotel, free of charge. Participants will be responsible for any additional costs.
During the session, all presenters must be available at the display to answer questions and informally discuss the contents. Presenters are requested to bring handouts (25 copies recommended). Presenters may wish to have a sign-up sheet to record names and addresses of attendees who would like further information, additional copies, etc.
Suggested Content
The display should include a statement of the problem, objectives of the project or research, the methodology used to solve the problem or implement the program, the major findings or outcomes and their significance, and conclusions. There should be logical sequence: Introduction, development, and conclusion. The conclusion(s), perhaps the most important part of the research, should be related to the project findings.
Keep it simple: Present only enough information to support your conclusions. The amount of information presented on the poster should be concise and well organized.
Text forms: Use short expanses of text mixed with data in tables, graphs, lists or illustrations. Reader should be able to focus on the main points immediately.
Spacing: A good ratio is 20% text, 40% graphics, and 40% open space. Leave plenty of blank space. Let spacing indicate relationships between poster parts. Avoid too many of the following: small pieces, edges, and narrow spaces between pieces.
Type: Large, dark, block style. Don’t use all capital letters; it is much harder to read. Lettering should be simple, bold, and easily legible from 3 feet. Directional arrows can help the viewer in following the sequence.
Color: Black or dark on white or light paper. Color combinations should be carefully considered for readability.
Matting: Attractive but not to call attention away from text. Limit number of colors used. Use color with a purpose (to bring out a point or to code one portion of the text as distinct from another).
Posters that appear crowded with too much data should be avoided. To help avoid crowding, consider giving interested individuals a copy of the research project abstract.
Design
Presenters may place the following materials on a large poster board: Photographs, diagrams, charts, data, and narrative text. The title heading should be at least 1-½” high. It should include the title of the poster session and all authors’ names and institutional affiliations. Visual elements are encouraged.
Basic Criteria
3 basic criteria for an effective display, aside from content, are that it be attractive, well organized, and largely self-explanatory.
Layout of the elements to read from top-left to bottom-right and sequential labeling of elements will greatly aid the visitor.
Presentation may be on several posters, but all must fit on a 3ft. x 5ft. board. Posters can be attached to the board with Velcro strips or thumb tacks (not provided). All display items should be attached to the poster or the 3’x5’ board.
Mounting Procedures
Mounting the display must be accomplished during the 60 minutes prior to the start of the session and taken down immediately following the session.
Submission Deadline
All poster submissions abstracts are to be submitted to Dr. Roslin Growe at rampprofessors@gmail.com by Friday, November 18, 2022. Confirmation of receipt of abstract will be sent by Friday, November 25, 2022. Acceptance announcement will be sent by Wednesday, November 30, 2022. Accepted presenters must be registered for the conference to display poster.
Criteria
