RAMP RACE RELATIONS AND SOCIAL JUSTICE STATEMENT:
The brutal killing of George Floyd revealed to the world the ever-growing list of individuals including Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Sandra Bland, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice and Trayvon Martin whose lives were unjustly cut short by police brutality and the systemic racism that plagues our country. The Research Association of Minority Professors (RAMP) stands in solidarity with those who recognize the time is now to combat racism and injustice through policing reform, educational equity and economic empowerment. We must not be silent. We must use our research and collective wisdom to support the tenets of truth. We must work together to bring about change and make certain that Black Lives Matter.
Welcome to RAMP!
The Research Association of Minority Professors (RAMP) is an educational and scientific research organization founded in 1975 by Dr. Frank T. Hawkins from the Department of Mathematics at Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas. This Association was organized with four major objectives:
RAMP welcomes all individuals who are desirous of continuing our contribution to the body of scholarly research as we address the wide array of critical issues that relate to expanding opportunities for educational access and success by culturally diverse, traditionally underrepresented populations.
RAMP members include professionals in virtually all areas of the nation's college and university system, from academic affairs, administrative deans, teaching faculty, department chairs, program directors and personnel from admissions, residential life, public safety, alumni affairs and athletics to student leaders and representatives from state and national institutes, agencies, commissions, associations, and foundations.
Together, these researchers and advocates not only provide a range of policy, planning, programmatic, curricular/pedagogic, assessment/evaluation, and training and/or theoretical perspectives from around the country, but also highlight exemplary working models and approaches capable of being adapted or replicated in other institutional settings.
RAMP also takes immense pride in its offerings to undergraduate and graduate students. Students are provided opportunities to develop and clarify their research interests and skills as part of their preparation to become faculty members, policy makers, and administrators in the support of access and opportunities for all.
- To provide an opportunity for minority professors to engage in culturally relevant research projects,
- To provide minority scholars with an opportunity to present research that relates to the Black experience,
- To provide publication of research by minorities and other scholars who address some phase of the Black experience, and
- To encourage students to become involved in systematic research activities.
